Day Nine - Sydney

Up early and out the door today; it was going to be a hot one.  I have given up on trying to be vegan here, it is impossible.  I am really disappointed as I
thought and had read that it was possible, yet this is a country that produces huge amounts if dairy products and they just haven't got their head around a vegan diet yet.  There is, if I am lucky, one choice on the menu!  All very disappointing.

I caught the bus today down to the quayside and there in port was the Cunard ship the Queen Elizabeth.  Last time I was here in 2013 it was the
Queen Mary II in port.  I went to a little coffee shop and grabbed a long black (Americano) and an almond croissant (again noting vegan).  There was such a lovely woman there who served me and we shared the time of day.  Sydney is like any other city; full of people who do not connect or speak with each other.  I caught the ferry to Manly.  This is a lovely ferry ride out to the north shore of Sydney and takes around 30 minutes, giving you wonderful views of the bridge and Opera House.  I liked Manly last time I come here, it has a great beach, which was full today because of the weather and you can watch them surf.  However, the surf was not really up today.  I sat in the shade as my legs (prickly heat) are driving me nuts, and just watched the world go by.

I went and got my friend a card and then to the post office to get a stamp and
sat and wrote to him, telling him of my travels (he does not have access to the internet at the moment so cannot follow my blog).  I drunk a great deal of water today as it was very, very warm and just spent the day chilling in Manly.  I decided to catch the ferry back before rush hour as many of the Sydney residents use the ferry to commute in and out of the city.  The ferry was a lot quieter on the way back and I just sat outside taking in the views.

Once back into the madness of the city it was 5.00pm and people were on the move.  I caught the tram, which I have to say I have really enjoyed, back to Surry Hills and managed to catch the little bakery near to my accommodation before it closed.  There were two vegetarian things to choose from: an eggplant (aubergine) and feta roll or a vegetable curry pie!  Sigh.  I opted for the 'sausage' roll thing.  Pray for me.

I got. back 'home' and had a lie down on my bed as I was sleepy and also my
legs now look as if they are scolded with hot water ..... sigh.  I have enjoyed my time in Sydney, it has been good.  However, I come here in 2013 when I was not settled and now, in 2020 I still do not feel settled and that has totally unsettled me overall (if that makes sense).  I think it will be a long time, if any, when I return to Sydney.  That is not saying I will not come back to Australia one day, but for now Sydney thank you and goodnight.

Started to pack my case and it seems a lot emptier, goodness knows what has happened there!  I will do a sweep of the property before I go tomorrow.  So tomorrow, new dawn, new day and all that rubbish.  The weather is due to change to rain, of course it is, and I am moving south.  Watch this space.  I will leave you will a few random photos of my time in Sydney.

As always, with my love x
