Central London. No vegan option, so had to have two poached eggs on one slice of soar dough bread and some avocado and a black coffee - $26 which is around £13. I then crossed the road and caught the ferry up to the zoo. On a Sunday the fairs are capped at $2.50 all day so you can catch as many trams, busses or ferries as you wanted. I decided to go to the zoo along with too many families and pushchairs.
The ride out on the ferry is so lovely. I got my favourite seat again and the harbour was full of boats. Sunday in Sydney must be get your boat out compared to washing your car (if you still
have one) in the UK. There were some really lovely boats. Arrived at Taronga Zoo and made my way to the wombats and there she was, the lovely Lucy who had just been feed. Only the one which I thought was a bit disappointing (but hey that is life) but I stood and watched her for about 30 minutes. They really are so beautiful. I then went to look at the kangaroos, wallabies and emus which are massive and very dinosaur looking, especially their feet. I got speaking to one of the volunteers there about her role and how much she enjoys it. It has been very hot today, around 32 degrees and I knew it. The prickly heat on my legs which was going has com back fighting and it really is quite uncomfortable; coupled with screaming kids and parents it has been challenging. However, I carried one and went to see the giraffes, elephants, monkeys, gorillas and all the native Australian animals, and some of them are really quite beautiful. It really was a good day out; long and hot but a good day and I kept my self hydrated. However, the day was coming to and end and then I went to the second part of my planned day.
I think this holiday has highlighted how much I spend on my own and how this
is not good. Today, really, was like a Sunday in London but more expensive and hotter. Just me walking around trying to find something interesting and no one to share it with. This holiday has given me time to think. I caught the bus to the arse end of nowhere in the suburbs as I was taking myself to the cinema. But before that, I was going to get something to eat. I had done my research first but when I got to the town, the pizza place I had in mind was only take away. I ended up, much to my disgust in McDonalds where I bought a veggie burger and could not eat it so just had the chips! How people eat food like that all the time I really do not know.
I then made my way to the cinema. I spotted it the other day when I was out and about then did some research and thought I should go and take a look. It was called The
Hayden Orpheum and it is a 1930s cinema. Much of the property is either Victorian or the 1930s when the country was having a boom because of the gold and minerals. This cinema was stunning. I went to see The Invisible Man and new version of HG Wells novel and did not know much about it. I was not disappointed, it was a great film and would highly recommend it. However, I would also recommend this cinema for a touch of nostalgia.
Got the bus back to the city and then the tram home. Legs are killing me (the prickly heat) and my back aches a bit tonight so I am going to rest up, but it is
22.45 already so I think it is time for bed as I have another busy day planned tomorrow. Even though there's only me, myself and I, I guess I have to keep moving.
As always, with my love x
